The NMA (The National Memorial Arboretum) is a place of outstanding beauty set in 150 plus acres of woodland. I am fortunate to live only a few miles away from The NMA. It is going to be the most incredible place and a credit to our fallen heroes.
Paratrooper Regiment at The NMA
I wanted to look up the Paratroop Regiment at The NMA and came across the paratroop plaque that you can see in the video. Its not very grand for The NMA so I asked one of the volunteers of The NMA if this was the only memorial for The Paras. I was informed that the NMA have planned, with the help of numerous Paratroop Regiment charities, in particular The Paracharity a fantastic monument for these fighting men. They are looking to raise £230,000 so they can have a spectacular monument for what I think is one of the greatest fighting regiments in the world.
The NMA Video
While I was standing in front of the Paratroop Regiment plaque at The NMA I looked down and saw a small cross with a poppy on it. Nothing unusual at The NMA, its surrounded in loving gestures to our fallen. What was unusual is that this particular cross had a photo of a soldier on it,and the soldiers name, Alan Haslam.
Who had left this at The NMA? Parents, wife, a son or daughter? I dont know but they took the time to add this image to the cross and to write the soldiers name on it so he wouldn’t be forgotten. I dont want him to be forgotten!
If anyone has any information on Alan, then please drop me an email. It would be much appreciated.
